Natalia Chavarria: Cuando Caigo del Cielo

On view through December 21, 2024

Baker—Hall is pleased to announce Natalia Chavarria’s first solo exhibition, Cuando Caigo del Cielo. The exhibition will be on view from November 16 through December 21, 2024, with an opening reception on Saturday, November 16, from 6 to 9 PM.

Miami-based artist Natalia Chavarria debuts new paintings that dive into the intricate connections between human emotion and the natural world. This body of work offers perspectives on how nature provides metaphors and symbols for expressing complex inner experiences.

Inspired by ephemeral moments in nature, Chavarria’s work highlights relationships that emerge from seemingly conflicting elements. In Cuando Caigo del Cielo, she embraces a distinct airbrush technique, juxtaposing soft textures with natural symbolism. By focusing almost exclusively on the airbrush, Chavarria introduces refined methods that nod to the tool’s origins, balancing its characteristic nostalgia and kitsch with layered expressions of resilience and fragility. Each piece illustrates a dynamic tension, inviting viewers to reflect on contrasts within human emotion and to explore the interplay of nature and the inner self.

Born in Mexico City and currently working in Miami, Chavarria holds a Fine Arts degree from Florida International University and has exhibited in solo and group shows, including Splash, Silence Again (2023) at Dale Zine and NADA Miami (2022). Her multidisciplinary practice spans painting, sculpture, and performance, focusing on the transience of natural moments and the complex relationships that arise within them.
